The winged cross with the arrows pointed diagonally represents the strong faith in the Catholic church, as well as the dangerous corruption of the church at the time. The castle represents feudalism in which the lord rules over his servants and lives in the manor. The hand grasping weed-like plants represents the intense and laborious agricultural work the peasants had to do. The armored knight on the horse represents the knights that protected the lord's estate, and also the Germanic invaders who spurred the creation of these manors by increasing public danger for peasants who sought protection.
